Earlier today, Square Enix shown its line-up to get PAX East 2020 which included Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Final Fantasy 14 and Outriders. But it later updated the schedule and eliminated several actions about Final Fantasy 14. The initially intended panel will not be taking place and a developer signing, picture opp, and enthusiast gathering event have also been canceled.
The cause of this is due to concerns within the coronavirus, which also led to the delay of the Taipei Game Show and Sony withdrawing from GDC 2020 and PAX East. Square Enix stated in a formal announcement: “Since the community may be conscious, COVID-19 (also known as as’novel coronavirus’) is spreading within the East Asia region. Taking into account the current situation within the region, sadly Square Enix has decided to cancel the Pax East attendance of employees who’d be traveling against the Japan offices.
“This challenging decision was based on our desire to prevent any possible spread of this virus and to enhance the health and safety of our team and our lovers. Since our team will not be in attendance, we are planning to scale back on our planned activities for Final Fantasy 14. ”
There will still be a Livestream from the developer’s offices though and attendees may still get involved in this Ruby Weapon Battle Challenge. Additionally, it appears that the playable demo for Final Fantasy 7 Remake and signing session with the game’s voice actors continue to be on. The Outriders panel is also still on track and will offer new details and information about the upcoming shooter.
PAX East 2020 takes place from February 27th to March 1st.
